What is Salvation?
Salvation is when you realize you are in a mess that you cannot get out of, no matter how hard you try. In your desperation, you finally ask for help. You ask someone to do something for you that cannot do for yourself.
What do we need to be saved From?
A broken relationship. Have you ever made a mistake that destroyed a relationship where there was nothing you could do to restore it? Maybe it was with one of your in laws. Which puts your spouse in the middle, forcing them to play the peacemaker. They speak on your behalf, guilty as you are, and persuade the offended one, to forgive you. Sounds impossible, right?
God is the one that has been offended because of our sin and this has caused a separation, a broken relationship. But we cannot fix it. We cannot say sorry enough because a few minutes later, we will do something else that will offend him. Romans 3:23 says for all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. However, God created us for fellowship and He was determined to not let sin get in the way. This is where Jesus comes in. He paid the price for our sin. Now we just have to accept that His death on the cross was enough.
You could say that Jesus is in relationship restoration business and He is the master at it. He doesn’t stop at just restoring your relationship with His father, He will help you restore all of your relationships.
That is the gospel, the story, the good news of Jesus Christ. It is a free gift, if you choose to accept it.
What exactly is the Gospel?
The Gospel is the good news that Jesus brought to us. That he could restore your relationship with God by paying the price of your sin because you cannot. He did this by His death on the cross and His resurrection from death. All you need to do is accept it.
It would be like someone stepping in at your bankruptcy hearing and paying all your debts plus giving you enough to get started again.
Or, when the judge finds you guilty but you don’t have any money so you have to go to jail. Then the judge stands up, takes off his robe, and pays your fine.
And yet, we reject the gift. But the offer still stands if you are willing to accept it now. How do you do that?
Say this prayer:
“Thank you Jesus for paying the price for my sins. I accept the free gift of forgiveness that was paid by your death on the cross in my place. I believe that you are God and on the third day you were resurrected from the dead.”
Why would he do that?
Because God is Kind and He loves us.
Romans 2:4 NKJV
4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and long suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
Titus 3:4 NKJV
4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
John 3:16-18 NKJV
16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
What exactly did Jesus do?
1 Corinthians 15:3-5 NKJV
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.
Jesus took the penalty of our sin upon His body, the full wrath of His father. A crown of thorns, a horrific beating, whipped until His back was completely shredded, naked, carried a cross while a crowd spit and cursed Him. You can read the full detail in these books.
